MARKSMANSHIP FUNDAMENTALS
We provide certification in the National Rifle Association Basics of Pistol Shooting and Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) courses. These trainings are intended for all individuals regardless of NRA-affiliation. Private instruction is also available for groups and individuals. Training is conducted at the Jefferson County Sportmen's Association in Port Townsend, or the Bainbridge Island Sportsmen's Club.
Basic Pistol Shooting Course
Course Goal: Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely.
Course Topics: Gun Safety Rules, Proper Operation of Semi-Automatic Pistols, Ammunition Knowledge and Selection, Pistol Selection and Storage, Shooting Fundamentals, Pistol Inspection and Maintenance, Marksmanship, and Shooting Range Safety.
Additionally, students will complete live fire training and a nationally standardized shooting qualification while on the range with an NRA Certified Instructor. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination and receive a course completion certificate bearing the signature of the NRA Secretary and your NRA Certified Instructor. Course materials will be mailed to the student in advance of the course date.
Cost of this course is $185; this includes the $15 range use fee for non-members. Course duration is approximately 8 hours.
Basic CCW Course
Course Goal: Teaches the basic knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to carry a concealed pistol for personal defense.
Course Topics: Firearm Safety, Selecting a Pistol for Self-Defense, Basic Defensive Pistol Skills, Drawing from Concealment, Loading and Stoppage Remediation, Mindset, Carry Modes, and Pistol Concealment.
Additionally, students will complete live fire training and a nationally standardized shooting qualification while on the range with an NRA Certified Instructor. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection Outside The Home handbook, take a CCW Student Examination and receive a course completion certificate bearing the signature of the NRA Secretary and your NRA Certified Instructor. Course materials will be mailed to the student in advance of the course date.
Cost of this course is $195; this includes the $15 range use fee for non-members. Course duration is approximately 8 hours.
* This is not a beginner level course. Proof must be provided of completing the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course, or its equivalent, as a prerequisite. Current and/or previous experience with pistols while serving in the military, or in a law enforcement or security capacity may suffice.

About Your Instructors
Ryan Marshall has been a certified NRA Pistol Instructor and Range Safety Officer since 2021. His firearms experience began in 1999 while employed with a Washington state law enforcement agency. Ryan served in the United States Coast Guard.
